The Cape Cod Cooperative Extension is seeking a Razor Clam Study Project Intern for Summer, 2019. Applications are due by April 15, 2019.
The Razor Clam Study Intern will work with Barnstable County Cooperative Extension Marine Team.
This position is for a pilot program to examine population density and structure of surf clams (Ensis directus) in the town of Brewster. Data gathered during this study will help inform future management decisions regarding this natural resource in Brewster as well as other Cape Cod towns. Intern will accompany razor clam harvesters during harvest and quantify number of clams removed and those returned. Subsamples if harvested razor clams will be measured for length using calipers. All data will be entered into an excel spreadsheet at the Cooperative Extension field office. In addition and time permitting, the intern will assist Marine Program staff with other field-based projects.

Education level: Open to all undergraduates who are currently enrolled at an accredited college or university, preferably having an interest or experience in science.
What can you expect to gain from this internship? By the end of the semester, you will learn about the shellfish aquaculture industry, commercial shellfish harvesting, natural resource management, shellfish (razor clam) biology/life history, and species dynamics.
This internship will also be offered during Spring 2019 and Summer 2019 semesters.
